Winfred is a Mandela Washington Fellow (MWF) 2019 hosted at the University of California- Davis under the public management track. She is a YALI Young Women in African Power (YWiAP) 2018 alumni. Winfred is the Women in Energy East Africa Community Student Award winner 2019, the African Queen of Energy Philanthropy award winner 2020 and was among the 158 Kenyans honoured with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) award by the H.E Uhuru Kenyatta in 2020. She is the gender focal point at KETRACO and a member of the Gender Mainstreaming Committee at the Ministry of Energy (MoE). She is a technical member of the LCPDP (Least Cost Power Development Plan) Committee in the Energy Sector in Kenya.
She is passionate about mentorship, volunteerism, community service, enhancing gender equality and eradication of energy poverty in communities. She is a volunteer STEM mentor/e-mentor with various organizations and networks where she encourages young girls and women to pursue STEM related careers which are mainly viewed as male-dominated careers. Winfred is the initiator of the “Blessed-To-Bless” Community Initiative, an initiative aimed at giving back to the community. She is the Founder of Tubariki Foundation Africa, a non-governmental organization aimed at fostering socio-economic transformation in communities.
Winfred believes in servant leadership and wants to be remembered for having left a legacy of inspiring and encouraging others towards greatness as well as being at the forefront of positively transforming communities. She believes that an empowered woman is powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description. She aspires to become more empowered as a woman in order to get actively involved in decision-making and policy-making roles as well as to actively participate in influential leadership positions. Winfred’s inspiration comes from fellow human beings who in their own small ways and acts of humanity have ensured that the world is a better place.
