Literature Africa Foundation - Educate, Inspire & Empower
Literature Africa Foundation (LAF) is a Non-Governmental Organization founded and registered in the year 2015. We aim at raising a generation of self-reliant individuals who are educated & empowered as we bridge the gap between education and economic empowerment. We endeavor to transform communities through education, advocacy and capacity building with an aim of challenging societal inequalities.
Our Mission
Our mission is to advance access to quality and inclusive education as well as economic empowerment opportunities for the youth through a long-term holistic approach which includes academic and literacy support, skills training and mentorship.
Our Vision
We envision a Kenya where all young people are educated and economically empowered to fulfill their potential and broaden their experience of the world, irrespective of poverty, ethnicity, gender, religion or special needs.
Our Core Values
Our Theory of Change
At the Literature Africa Foundation (LAF), our work is driven by a commitment to empower
individuals and transform communities through education and social & economic empowerment.
We believe that by addressing the root causes of societal challenges, we can create lasting
change.
Why We Do What We Do
At the Literature Africa Foundation (LAF), our programs are designed to address critical gaps in
education, leadership, health, and mental well-being within our communities. We believe that
access to books through our Book a Child Campaign fosters literacy and lifelong learning,
setting the foundation for future success. Our ILead Program empowers children and youths by
instilling values and equipping them with leadership skills, preparing them to tackle societal
challenges head-on. Through Somo2Kazi, we bridge education and employment, enabling
individuals to achieve economic self-reliance. Our Zero Secrets Project addresses health
disparities by providing vital sexual and reproductive health education, ensuring informed
decision-making. Amani Mtaani Project promotes peace and resilience by fostering
understanding and cooperation through conflict resolution training. Lastly, our Mental Health
Awareness & Support for Women Project equips women and girls with the tools to manage
stress, build resilience, and maintain positive mental health, creating a supportive environment
for personal growth and community well-being.
Each of these initiatives reflects our commitment to building a more equitable and empowered
society.
Our Approach
Through these initiatives, LAF works to create a cycle of empowerment. Education opens doors
to opportunities, which in turn enable economic growth and social development. By addressing
key areas such as literacy, leadership, vocational skills, health, and peace, we challenge societal
inequalities and pave the way for a brighter future. LAF seeks to empower individuals with the
skills, knowledge, and support needed to overcome challenges and drive sustainable
development thereby building self-reliant, resilient communities.
Impact
Our theory of change is based on the belief that empowered individuals and informed
communities can break the cycle of poverty and inequality. We believe that by empowering
individuals and equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge, we can foster self-
reliant communities capable of driving sustainable development. Each of our programs is
designed to meet specific community needs, ensuring our interventions lead to meaningful and
lasting change.
