Accredited Engineering courses in Kenya list is endless, but below is a guide with details of
admission requirements, specializations, career prospects and key skills for someone
planning to venture in some engineering career in Kenya.
Branch of engineering that deals with the construction of infrastructure such as roads, buildings and bridges. The Thika Super Highway was built by civil engineers and so is the Standard Gauge Railway from Nairobi to Mombasa. The tall buildings in Nairobi such as Times Tower and KICC are also products of civil engineers.
Civil engineers can be employed by the national or county governments, private construction firms or operate their own consultancy firms.
For one to be an engineer you have to be fond of, and pass mathematics and sciences.
The basic admission requirement for a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Course is an A- in KCSE for you to study the course at a public university under the regular program and at least C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for parallel student. Universities, however, have different entry requirements, which depend on popularity of the institution. In addition, applicants are expected to have obtained at least a grade C+ in each of the cluster subjects in following cluster of subjects in KCSE examinations:

This discipline of engineering deals with the manufacture and assembling of both computer hardware and software. Hardware is the physical components of a computer that you can see and touch such as the monitor and keyboard. Software are the programs that run the computer that you can neither see nor touch. They also develop mobile phone applications such as WhatsApp.
Computer engineers can be employed in firms such as Microsoft and mobile phone developers such as Apple.
This field of engineering deals with the study and use of electricity. It is a very wide field. It involves making and setting up of powerful electrical equipment such as transformers, electric grid as well as small electronic devices such as mobile phone chips and microwaves for warming food.
They can seek employment in power-generating firms such as KenGen, Kenya Power and other technological firms such as LG which makes refrigerators, televisions, phones etc.
It deals with the design, manufacture and maintenance of machines such as cars, planes, robots and even weapons. It overlaps with other forms of engineering such as electrical engineering.
Mechanical engineers can be employed in aerospace institutions such as NASA that deals with space crafts such as rockets, Boeing, car manufacturing companies such as Toyota and Nissan amongst others.
This branch of engineering involves the combination of medicine and the study of the human body. Furthermore, it mostly centers its research for use in hospitals for complex surgeries, X-rays and coming up with drugs for treating patients with serious diseases.
They can work at hospitals, research institutes such as KEMRI, companies that make drugs
and machines used in hospital.
It is a discipline that involves using technology to protect our environment and help people avoid environmental disasters such as drought and getting infected by water borne diseases like cholera. Environmental engineers help come up with good sewage systems that may run through many cities like for example, Nairobi and Thika town have a joint sewage system.
These engineers can be employed in Nairobi City Waters which controls the sewage system in Nairobi, in the Ministry of Water which ensures proper distribution of boreholes and wells.
