Winfred Mutinda – Kenya
Winfred Mutinda is an award-winning Electrical Engineer, with over 5 years’ experience in the energy sector and currently working at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited as a Transmission System Planning Engineer. She holds a BSC in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MSC in Energy Technology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Winfred is a Mandela Washington Fellow 2019 hosted at the University of California- Davis, a YALI Women in African Power alumni and the Women in Energy East Africa Community Student Award winner 2019. Winfred is a council member of the FGM to STEM Initiative. She is currently a member of the Gender Mainstreaming Committee at KETRACO as well as a technical member of the LCPDP Committee in the Energy Sector in Kenya.
She is passionate about mentorship, volunteerism, women empowerment and eradication of energy poverty She is a volunteer STEM mentor with “Akili Dada Foundation” where she mentors young girls towards greatness by encouraging them to pursue STEM related careers which are mainly viewed as male-dominated careers, an e-mentor with the Awedi Network and the initiator of the “Blessed to Bless” Community Initiative, an initiative aimed at giving back to the community through charitable activities, mentorship programs as well as energy-related sensitization and capacity programs hence positively impacting lives. Winfred is committed to actively participate towards eradication of energy poverty in the society and her inspiration comes from fellow human beings who in their own small ways and acts of humanity have ensured that the world is a better place.
